Pop's Birthday

At his 72nd birthday party, Pop had fun telling us about a car he used to own back when he was in the Service. This was before they built all the major highways, and driving home one day, he heard a big BANG, which left a big hole in his engine or something under the hood (what do I know about cars anyway?).

Him and his close friends pushed the car to a mechanic, who fixed it, but said "whatever you do, don't let the car turn off. You will never get it back on." So, off they went. Everything was cruising, when suddenly everyone slammed on their brakes, and he had to do likewise. When the traffic started moving, their car would not restart.

That's when a nice guy from Illinois volunteered to give them a push start with his car. They started speeding up, and Pop let go of the pedal. (When I was little, I always thought that pedals in a car worked like a bike...lol.) All of a sudden, Pop's car just stopped! Unfortunately, Mr. Illinois' car did not, and he wound up with a crushed vehicle when he slammed into the back of Pop's car. Gratefully, Pop's car didn't even have a scratch. But Mr. Illinois's car had seen better days, and he was not too happy about it.

Pop felt bad, but there was nothing he could do about it. He said, "Sorry, I don't have any money or insurance." Mr. Illinois wanted to call the cops. Pop told him, "You can do that, but they're not gonna be any help, 'cause I don't have any money OR insurance."

We all laughed (you had to be there for his telling of it), and then it was time for delicious cake!

See you later, people!
